Walking the Earth

I'm a 47-year-old Canadian in Toronto. I've been married for more than 20 years, and have two children--a 17-year-old son and a 16-year-old daughter. I worked at a telecommunications company for 28 years doing operations, program management, and product leadership. Now I'm working at a geospatial software company working to improve our transportation systems.

Although I'm an introvert and love my alone time, I'm grateful to have deep connections with some wonderful people whom I spend lots of time with. I play a lot of squash and ice hockey, I read many books, I play acoustic guitar and piano, and I teach business courses on weekends at a university. Baseball is my favourite sport to watch, and I've followed the Blue Jays since I was a kid. I also love to write, and I journal every day.

With my 4,000 weeks, I aim to live a big life, with the best possible balance of all the things. There is never enough time to do it all, but that doesn't stop me from trying.

I started blogging way back in 2001 and stopped for no good reason in 2018. Now it's 2024, and I'm back! Time to start writing publicly again.

My original blog was called Walking the Earth, inspired by that great scene in Pulp Fiction. I've decided to keep the name for this one. Why? Because if you asked me to boil down what I do with my life, it would be...

Walking from place to place, meeting people, having adventures.

Writing on this blog is where I get to tell you what I'm observing, learning, and contemplating along the way.
